Vancouver, Canada - a city where I became an alien of no nation
I think I will really make my blog about accidents :)..unlike the other ones that I read which is more informative and senseful
Why start my travel story about Canada? ... How can I ever forget that moment in the Canadian Immigration line when my passport was ripped off in the middle! ... and the officer said ... "Your passport is not anymore valid. You are now an alien of no nation." ... Whaaaaaat?!!!!! I never realized I would be an alien, worse of no nation...but does alien have nation? ... I thought they live in outer space :)
I can now make fun out of that incident. But it wasn't really funny ..it was scary ...glad I had with me my other passports ... and the officer who initially thought that I had false passport finally believed that my passport was a legal one.... I was just one of those unfortunate ones who ended up having that crispy hard covered passport that easily ripped off.
Anyhow, Canada is good place to be an "alien" ..specially in Vancouver which ranked number 1 several years ago, for being the safest city in the world to live and consistently in the top 5 For a while, I thought of moving to that city.
The original settlement, named Gastown, grew up on clearcuts on the west edge of the Hastings Mill logging sawmill's property, where a makeshift tavern had been set up on a plank between two stumps and the proprietor, Gassy Jack, persuaded the curious millworkers to build him a tavern, on 1 July 1867. From that first enterprise, other stores and some hotels quickly appeared along the waterfront to the west. Gastown became formally laid out as a registered townsite dubbed Granville, B.I. ..according to wikipedia
Archaeological records indicate the presence of Aboriginal people in the Vancouver area from 8,000 to 10,000 years ago...according again to wikipedia
But makes Vancouver a pretty city for me is because it is city with beaches ... if someone needs a place of quiet and solitude from a bustling city, there is always a place where one can relax, watch the wave, sip a glass of wine or read a book
Who wouldn't want to be an alien in a city with beaches?
